Mrs. Cavalancia earns Penguins Most Valuable Principal Award
Congratulations to Curtisville Primary Principal Mrs. Jennifer Cavalancia who was awarded the 2024 Pittsburgh Penguins MVP (Most Valuable Principal) honor!
In partnership with Allegheny Intermediate Unit and The Grable Foundation, the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation has extended this recognition for several years to exceptional principals across Allegheny County. Mrs. Cavalancia is one of 15 principals to earn the honor in 2024 and was selected from an extensive pool of nominations.
Selected principals have demonstrated leadership in advancing teaching and learning, commitment to excellence, and dedication to the success of all learners, according to the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation.
“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition, which is representative of the diligent work and continuous efforts of the staff to support our students and the learning environment,” Mrs. Cavalancia said. “Curtisville Primary Center is such a special place because of the people and initiatives within. I am blessed that I get to do this work each day.”
Mrs. Cavalancia was nominated by Meghan Bright, Curtisville Primary’s Wellness Education Teacher.
“Mrs. Cavalancia’s dedication and commitment to Curtisville is outstanding,” Mrs. Bright said. “She inspires us to be amazing educators and believes in the well-being of every student and staff member. Curtisville would not be the same without her contagious spirit to make every day a great one.”
This is Mrs. Cavalancia’s 12th year as the principal at Curtisville Primary, and, in collaboration with her staff, has helped lead Curtisville Primary to two consecutive years of being named one of America’s Healthiest Schools by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. Additionally, Curtisville Primary has achieved Fidelity of Implementation of Tier 1 PBIS, a systematic way of teaching, modeling, acknowledging and celebrating students for meeting school behavioral expectations.
As part of being named a Penguins MVP, Mrs. Cavalancia will be honored at the March 17th Penguins Game, will receive a customized Pens Jersey, and a $1,000 donation to Curtisville Primary.
